The Very Rev. Paul Smith

Paul grew up in Tilton, New Hampshire, where he and his family were active members of Trinity Episcopal Church.  After completing High School and a degree in Electronic Engineering, he discerned a call to ordained ministry which led him to pursue a degree in Psychology at Plymouth State University, in New Hampshire, before moving on to  Huron College, (U.W.O.) London, Ontario where he graduated with a Master of Divinity degree. Ordained in the Diocese of Quebec in 1981, Paul served on the Lower North Shore region of Quebec, (St. Clement’s Mission East) then in parishes in the Diocese of Western Newfoundland and Labrador (Burgeo then Meadows).  In 1992 he moved to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and served as Rector of historic Christ Church until beginning his ministry at All Saints Cathedral in the fall of 2008

Among his interests are ministry with children, preaching, music, and pastoral care. He appeared in many musical stage plays with the Christ Church Players with roles ranging from “the great and powerful Oz” in The Wizard of Oz, to Max Detweiler in the Sound of Music. He has been involved in many facets of church life as Regional Dean, Archdeacon, Warden to Lay Readers, supervisor of Theological students, and Church Camp chaplain.  He has served as a resource and presenter to the Palliative Care training program for the V.O.N. of Greater Halifax since 1998. An annual supporter of “The Prouty” a cancer fundraising initiative of the Norris Cotton Cancer Research Center at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, Paul has participated by biking the 100 mile Century route.
